Behind the Front Door
The home's front door is repurposed, reused, recycled
One of the hottest interior design trends is the use of reclaimed wood from old barns. People are incorporating this rustic style into their homes via pantry or interior doors.
Mike Spillane got on the bandwagon when considering options for the walk-in closet in the master suite. In lieu of a barn door, he used the original front door to the house. It was so unique that he salvaged it when the exterior was being remodeled.
Spillane installed a sliding track along the top frame and refinished the door to match the bathroom colors. The finished look is a cross between contemporary and rustic. The horizontal windows on the door complement the horizontal widows in the closet and increase the amount of natural light within the space.
